Initial Configuration

Overview

TheEnterasysNetworksRoamAboutAccessPoint3000includesaWeb‐basedinterface,anda

directconnectiontotheconsoleportforCLImanagement.YoucanalsomanagetheAccessPoint

3000usinganSNMPmanager,suchasEnterasysNetworksNetSightAtlas.

YoucanperformtheinitialconfigurationstepsthroughtheCLI

ortheWebinterface.

TheaccesspointrequestsanIPaddressfromaDynamicHostConfigurationProtocol(DHCP)

serverbydefault.IfaDHCPserverdoesnotrespond,thentheaccesspointusesthedefault

address,192.168.1.1.

IfyouutilizeaDHCPservertoprovisionnewelementsinyourIPnetwork,

useyourDHCPserver

orotherutilitiestodeterminetheIPaddressassignedtothisaccesspoint.Then,usetheDHCP

assignedIPaddresstoconnecttotheaccesspoint.

Using the CLI

TheAccessPoint3000includesanRS‐232serialportthatenablesaconnectiontoaPCorterminal

formonitoringandconfiguration.AttachaVT100‐compatib leterminal,oraPCrunninga

terminalemulationprogramtotheaccesspoint.Youcanusetheconsolecableprovidedwiththis

package,or

useanull‐modemcablethatcomplieswiththewiringassignmentsshownin

Appendix C.

Required Connections

Toconnecttotheconsoleport,completethefollowingsteps:

1. Connecttheconsolecabletotheserialportonaterminal,oraPCrunningterminalemulation

software,andtightenthecaptiveretainingscrewsontheDB‐9connector.

2. ConnecttheotherendofthecabletotheRS‐232serialport

ontheaccesspoint.

3. Makesuretheterminalemulationsoftwareissetasfollows:

•Selecttheappropriateserialport(COMport1or2).

•Setthedatarateto9600baud.

•Setthedataformatto8databits,1stopbit,andnoparity.

•Setflowcontrolto

none.

•SettheemulationmodetoVT100.

•WhenusingHyperTerminal,selectTerminalkeys,notWindowskeys.
