Assign Channel Settings
AfteridentifyingtheRoamAboutSwitchesrequiredforacoveragearea,youneedtoassign
channelstotheRoamAboutSwitches.Appropriateassignmentofchannelsacrossthefloor
minimizesco‐channelinterference.Thechannelassignmentalgorithmassignsnon‐overlapping
channelstoneighboringAPsfromtheselectedchannelset.Choosethestartingfloorand
the
endingfloor(inthedownwarddirection)formulti‐floorchannelassignment.Thealgorithmtakes
predictedRSSIvaluesbetweenneighboringAPs(includingAPsondifferentfloorsand3rdparty
APs)andminimizessame‐channelassignmentsbetweenAPs.Youcanspecifycross‐floor
attenuationandthe802.11technologyonwhichyou
wanttoperformthechannelassignment.
RASMusespredictedRSSIvaluesfortheimaginary“ray”thatisdrawnbetweentwoAPs.
Consequently,youmay seeunexpectedresultsiftheexactpathbetweentheAPshasmany
obstacles,buttheareasaroundthatpatharerelativelyopen.Youcanmakefurthermanual
adjustments,ifnecessary.
Toassignchannels:
1. DisplaythefloorplanintheContentpanel.
2. IntheTaskListpanel,clickRFPlanning.
3. UnderRFPlanning,clickAssignChannels.TheChannelAssignmentwizardappears,
showingthecurrentchannelassignmentconstraints.
4. Tochangethestartingfloorforchannelassignment,selectthefloorfromthe
BeginOnFloor
List.Bydefault,RASMstartsatthetopfloorandworksdown.
5. Tochangetheendingfloorforchannelassignment,selectthefloorfromtheEndOnFloorList.
Theendingfloornumbermustbelowerthanorequaltothestartingfloornumber.
6. Tochangetheradio
typeforwhichtoassignchannels,selecttheradiotypefromthe
Technologylist.Bydefault,RASMassignschannelsforallradiotypesontheRoamAbout
Switchesplacedinthebuilding.
7. TopreventRASMfromtakingthechannelassignmentsfortheflooraboveintoaccountwhen
calculatingthechannelassignmentsfor
